Investigation Summary
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 14, 2008, an employee was installing drywall in Unit Number B-2. The employee and coworkers had a rolling scaffold but were unable to use it to install drywall over the stairwell that led from the ground floor to the second level. The employee placed a 12-ft long, 2-in. by 12-in. wooden plank from the second floor balcony across the wall to a ladder. His helper stood on the plank on the balcony end. The employee climbed onto the plank and with his helper was lifting the sheet of drywall into place on the wall. The employee lost his balance and fell about ten feet to the floor beside the stairs. He broke his left arm and left ankle. The employee was transported to Scripps La Jolla, where he underwent treatment for a leg and arm fracture and was hospitalized for seven days.
