Employee Falls from Bridge and Fractures Spine

On April 13, 2007, Employee #1 was working on a railway system he fell 38 ft from a bridge. Initially it was thought that Employee #1's fall protection system failed. Upon further investigation it was disclosed by the employer that the fall protection system had been anchored to the beam walkers at the foot level of Employee #1 and not overhead as dictated by the manufacturer's directions and ANZI Standards. Employee #1 sustained a fractured spine in the lower part of his back and will allow it to heal naturally. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
