Employee Is Injured When Struck by Hose

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on October 22, 2008, Employee #1, a masonry contractor, was working at a construction site. Employee #1 was holding in his both hands about 2-ft to 3-ft long loosely hanging hose from the discharge end side of a 200-ft long by 4-in flexible hose line laying on the ground connected to an OLIN, Model Number 565, concrete pumping unit. At the start of priming the pump and the hose line, the hose suddenly wiped up, striking Employee #1 in his face. Employee #1 sustained serious multiple facial fractures and lacerations. Employee #1 was hospitalized and treated for his injuries.
