Event: 09/02/2008
Employee Suffers Amputation While Using Router

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on September 02, 2008, Employee #1 was working for guitar and amplifier manufacturer. He was using an unguarded router (Porter-Cable, Model Number 75192, Type I, Serial Number 072570A1061, 2100 rpm) to shape the butt section of the guitar neck (approximately 25.75-in. long, 1.75-in. thick, with a 2.25 in. butt end). The employee's hand made contact with the running table router and his little finger on his right hand was amputated. A coworker, working near by, saw that the employee had cut his hand and came over to help him. Emergency medical services were called and the employee was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where he underwent surgery. Employee #1 underwent surgery but was not hospitalized, he was released later the same day.
