Employee Crushes Fingers in Mill Machine

On June 25, 2008, at or about 10:53 AM, Employee #1 was operating a swing granulator, model YK-160, an oscillating mill machine equipted to grind dietary granular food material. After grinding a batch of the material, Employee #1 tried to clean off some stuck material from the interior sieve surface of the grinder with a wire in his left hand without turning the power off. At that time Employee #1's left hand got pulled between the material feed openings and the oscillating blades bars of the machine causing the serious injury. Employee #1 sustained serious crushing injuries of his left middle, index, fingers and left thumb. Employee #1 was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, for treatment. Surgery was performed and Employee #1 was hospitalized for 4 days.
