Employee's Finger in Amputated by Skilsaw Blade

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on March 29, 2007, an employee was installing Corbels, made out of 4-in by 4-in. by 2-ft lumber pieces, while standing on the porch top of the house. During installing a Corbel, he tried to widen a notch by holding a BOSCH, Model Number 1677MD, 7.25-in. Worm drive, 4400 RPM, portable Skil saw in his right hand and held retractable guard lever, with his left hand thumb. After making the cut, he lifted his left thumb off the guard lever while saw blade was freely coasting and inadvertently his left little finger tip came in contact, causing the amputation. The employee was taken to the Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA. The surgery was performed the same day, and the employee was discharged after 4 hours.
