Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 200355758
Event: 10/30/2006
Road Worker Is Struck by Truck, Suffering Multiple Fractures

At approximately 12:28 p.m., on October 30, 2006, C.C. Mangum Contractors, LLC, was resurfacing the westbound lane of Lumley Road, beginning near the Page Road intersection and heading west towards Miami Boulevard. An employee was seriously injured when a recycling truck struck him. The recycling truck driver was in route, picking up recyclables at the time of the incident. The truck was traveling North on Appling Way and came to a complete stop at 5000 Lumley Road. The truck driver was making a right turn onto East Lumley Road when he heard a scream. He stopped his truck, got out, and observed that a worker was lying in the street underneath his truck, between the front and rear axles. The truck driver immediately called emergency medical services, which provided medical assistance and transported the employee to Duke Medical Center. The worker was hospitalized and treated for multiple fractures to his bones and extremities.
