Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202486411
Event: 10/24/2007
Employee Is Injured When Struck by Falling Crane Load

On October 24, 2007, Employee #1, a welder, was assembling a large metal trash container. A large metal sheet, approximately 1,000 pounds, had been placed on the shop floor with a clamp attached to one end. The clamp was connected to an overhead crane. The crane started lifting the metal sheet off the floor and it was almost vertical when the metal sheet slipped out from the clamp onto Employee #1. The force of the sheet pushed Employee #1 into metal racks behind him as it slid down his body. Employee #1 sustained injuries to his GI track and underwent surgery for the removal of a portion of his intestine.
