Employee Is Injured in Fall from Elevated Work Surface

On December 11, 2006 Employee #1 and a coworker were installing flashing onto the front of a building under construction. Employees #1 and the coworker were standing on the angled area of the supper structure at approximately 33 ft 8 in high. Employee #1 fell from the area that they were working and landed on top of an extended cornice that was approximately 28 ft above ground. Employee #1 then fell another 8 ft, struck the top of the unfinished canopy, and proceeded to fall an additional 12 ft to the surface below. Employee #1 suffered a crushed right elbow, broken right shoulder, and broken leg. Employee #1 was hospitalized and treated for his injuries. Neither Employee #1, nor his coworker was tied off and they were not wearing any type of fall protection equipment or devices.
