Employee Is Struck by Falling Beam and Suffers Fracture

Employee #1 was struck by a 32-ft by 18-in. structural steel beam weighing approximately 1,100 pounds. The wire rope choked and rigged structural beam became accidentally disengaged from the safety latched hook while being multi-lifted (Christmas-treed) from a Manitowoc 180 crawler crane. The top section in the three beam multi-lift system became disengaged and fell approximately 15 ft, striking Employee #1, the rigger working under the suspended load. Employee #1 suffered unspecified fractures and was hospitalized.
