Employee Fractures Fingers When Caught Between Rollers

On June 12, 2007, Employee #1, a temporary worker, was helping the machine operator replace some printing plates. Although this was not his regularly assigned duty, he had been taught how to install the printing plates. In order to install the printing plates, Employee #1 had to clip one end of the plate to the groove on the roller then press a button with his right hand to turn the roller, and at the same time press the plate to the roller with his left hand to keep it flat as it turned. His left hand became caught at the nip point between the rollers, causing lacerations and fractures to the third and fourth fingers of his left hand. He was not hospitalized for his injuries.
