Employee Amputates Finger While Using Saw

On April 13, 2007, Employee #1, a saw operator, was performing a trim cut to a 22-in. by 22.75-in. by approximately 1-in. thick piece of aluminum with a Metlsaw 4-ft table saw. Employee #1 just finished the trim when he released the clamps and guard and reached into the point of operation to feel the trim on the piece of aluminum. The saw blade was still running and nipped Employee #1's fingers. Employee #1 suffered an amputation to his left middle finger down to the second knuckle and a lacerated thumb and ring fingers. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
