Investigation Summary
At approximately 9:15 a.m on October 11, 2008, Employee #1, a Recreation Assistant III for the City of Carson, was assigned to assist and supervise the Pan Cake Breakfast function for the City's Sports Program at the Veteran's Park. A chaffing dish equipped with a heating pan under it filled with water heated by a sterno (gel fuel) was used to prepare the food for the event. Employee #1 was moving one of the heating pan filled with hot water when the pan flipped and the hot water splashed onto his abdomen and feet, causing 3rd degree burns to his feet. Employee #1 was brought to the Western Medical Clinic for treatment and was later admitted at the Torrance Memorial Hospital, where he was confined from October 4, 2008 to November 7, 2008.
