Employee Is Injured in Fall from Palm Tree

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on April 20, 2006, Employee #1 was trimming palm trees at a funeral home and memorial park. Using climbing spikes, he climbed to a height of approximately 80 ft, and was using a safety lanyard that was wrapped around the tree trunk. He had a safety rope thread through the fronds of the palm. Employee #1 was injured when the safety lanyard around the trunk slipped, the safety rope slipped out of the fronds, and he fell to the ground. He was hospitalized for a fractured back.
