Investigation Summary

At 10:24 a.m. on May 3, 2007, Employee #1, the owner of Gene Bitter Construction, was working on a garage roof. Employees from two companies (two employees from Bitter Construction and Woodworking and Employee #1 and two other employees from Gene Bitter Construction) were working together to tear off the old roofing materials and install a new roof. The roof had a 6-to-12 pitch and an eave-to-ground height of approximately 9 feet 6 inches. No slide guards or other form of fall protection were being used at the site at the time of the accident. Employee #1 had fallen from the roof and was not breathing. After further investigation and receipt of the coroner's report, the death of Employee #1 was deemed to be a heart attack and not related to the fall hazard to which he was also exposed.
