Employee Is Pinned Between Structures During Storm and Dies

On May 24, 2011, Employee #1, a shipyard worker, ran between two portable metal buildings seeking shelter during a severe thunderstorm with sudden winds in excess of 90 mph. The wind caused a dry-dock portal crane to move forward along the tracks that pushed into a concrete stop block. The crane struck the first building and pinning Employee #1 against the other portable metal building. He sustained crushing injuries that killed him.
