Investigation Summary
On May 9, 2006, several employees topped a pine tree near a home. The top of the pine tree was left leaning against another tree for approximately 30 minutes prior to the accident. One employee, cut straight across another tree apparently attempting to take down the standing treetop, without cutting a notch in the 15 in. diameter pine tree. The tree and stump split, and kicked up and started rolling. The employee was crushed and pinned to the ground by the rolling tree. The employee did not retreat after he had cut the 15 in. pine tree, and was killed in the accident.
