Employee's Fingers Are Amputated When Caught by Drum Roller

At approximately 2:14 p.m. on April 18, 2007, Employee #1 was operating a machine with a drum roller. The machine manufactured by Curt G Joa, Inc., Model Number J-4 packaging machine, was used to make diapers. It was equipped with 8 barrier guards around its perimeter with interlocks access points. The area is well illuminated with approximately 80,000 square ft of work area. Employee #1 noticed a build up of adhesive on a drum roller and climbed onto a ladder to remove it with an abrasive pad. His hand was caught by a 20.8-in. drum roller spinning at 573.125 ft per minute. His hand was degloved, and four fingers were amputated. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
