Employee Fractures Skull in Closing Sterling Oven

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on November 28, 2006, Employee #1, a 58 year old male, suffered a hinge fracture on the skull. The employee was employed by the company as a maintenance worker. The employee was clearing a jam on the line, at the annex sterling oven. It was reported that the exit doors came shut on the employee's head while clearing the jam, creating struck-by, crushing, and caught-in hazards. The doors were pneumatically powered with approximately 70 PSI of pressure. The area around the doors was not protected by sensing devices nor was it protected by physical barriers to prevent employees from entering into the hazardous area created by the oven doors. There were no witnesses to the accident. There were no contributing weather conditions. The area within the plant where the accident occurred was dry. The company makes semi truck cabs for different manufactures and ships these shells out to different assembly plants.
