Event: 05/15/2006
Employee Amputates Fingers in Ripsaw

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on May 15, 2006, Employee #1, working for Gary Doupnik Manufacturing, Inc., was operating a manual feed ripsaw. He was cutting 4-inch strips from an 18-inch by 48-inch piece of 0.625-inch siding, when his right hand slipped and contacted the blade of the saw. He amputated portions of his middle, ring, and little fingers of the right hand. He was hospitalized with his injury. Further investigation revealed that he was not using a push stick, even though two push sticks were near the saw at the time of the accident. The hood guard was in place at the time of the accident.
