Event: 02/22/2005
Employee Is Burned by Exploding Furnace, Later Dies

At approximately 3:45 a.m. on February 22, 2005, Employee #1 was struck by a 1,200 pound model MK8 Pillar electric induction furnace. The furnace had been rebuilt and was operating through the sintering procedure. The furnace bridged, superheated, melted the refractory lining and melted the water cooling coils which allowed water into the molten metal. The furnace had multiple electric arcing, explosions with the molten metal erupting out onto the Employee #1. He was severely burned and hospitalized. He died on March 6, 2005.
