Employee Is Injured in Fall from Roof

On April 2, 2007, an employee was cutting the edges from asphalt shingles from a residential roof when he fell 17.5 feet sustaining head and left shoulder injuries. The employee was part of a six person roofing crew that was installing asphalt shingles. The crew was performing finishing operations when the employee fell. The employee was working on a narrow section of the roof, 2.5 feet wide, when he appears to have lost his balance and fell. The employees were not protected by any type of fall protection system. The employee was hospitalized and treated for concussion.
