Employee Is Killed When Crushed by Falling Tree

On February 21, 2005, Employee #1 was felling a birch tree (approximately 60-ft long and 10.5-in. diameter) at a Boy Scout camp. He made a conventional notch cut, followed by a back cut completely through the trunk. When the birch tree fell, it struck another tree approximately 18 ft away. This caused the base of the birch tree to swing up and strike his chest. Employee #1 was killed.
