Employee Is Killed When Crushed by Granite Slabs

On August 26, 2005, Employee #1 and two coworkers were removing slabs of granite from metal storage racks. After removing the slabs from racks 1 and 2, they began removing the slabs from rack 3, which contained 8 to 10 slabs. Two slabs were lifted up and the slabs leaning against the rack shifted and fell against the rack. Employee #1 was within the rack hooking up the slab hoisting device and was crushed and died of asphyxiation. A coworker received multiple fractures to his leg, but his injuries were not recorded.
