Employee Injured in Fall Into Steel Rollers

On October 28, 2004, Employee #1 was working as a coater operator on a coil coating line, observing the product passing through the tension leveler, when he climbed into the motor area of the machine to get a better look at the moving steel, slipped on a conduit, and fell into the 34 inch diameter rollers. Employee #1 extricated himself after receiving multiple fractures to his chest, arms, and face and lacerations to his arms and chest and then activated the emergency stop and called for help. Employee #1 was transported to shock trauma via helicopter.
