Employee dies in single motor vehicle accident

At approximately 12:55 p.m. on April 26, 2004, Employee #1, a fisheries biologist for the US Forest Service, was driving a Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep went off the right side of the road and struck a culvert, flew over another road and rolled onto the passenger side and slid into a large tree. The roof of the vehicle wrapped around the tree and caved in almost to the seat. He was found wearing his seatbelt. The Forest Service records showed the vehicle had received proper maintenance. The truck was found with sufficient brake linings, deployed air bags, and steering that appeared to work except for the accident damage. The weather conditions were clear, dry, and about 75 degrees at the time of accident. The road was flat, dry and properly marked. Employee #1 was hospitalized and died the next day.
