Employee's Hand Is Injured When Caught in Conveyor

At about 5:40 a.m. on June 20, 2006, Employee #1 was placing boxes on a belt conveyor system (Deamtic Model Number 460, Equipment Number BT+001 & BT+005, speed 80 fpm, 1 H.P.) in a distribution center. He stated that both belts were running in the same direction. As he was placing the boxes on a conveyor belt, some items fell out of the box onto the belt. When he tried to pick up the items, his right hand was pulled into the gap between the edges of the conveyor belts. Employee #1 was hospitalized, during which time his right ring finger was surgically amputated.
