Employee Amputates Left Hand When Caught in Chain Drive

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on January 25, 2005, Employee #1 was preparing to lubricate the auger sprocket chain drive on a home-built Gunite machine when a rag he had wrapped around his left hand got caught by the running chain and pulled into the in-running chain and sprocket drive. A coworker came to his aid. Employee #1 suffered a partial amputation to his second, third and fourth fingers of his left hand. Employee #1 was treated for his injuries but was not hospitalized.
