Carpenter Is Injured While Removing Hanger

At about 11:00 a.m. on January 19, 2005, Employee #1, a carpenter at the Tandem West Group, a framing contractor, was removing a hanger while straddling the lower chord of a 10 foot 6 in., 4-ply truss located in the kitchen area inside a single story residential home. As he was pulling a nail with a hammer, his right elbow hit a piece of metal on the structure. He lost his balance and fell about 10 feet 6 inches onto a concrete floor, sustaining serious multiple fractures. He required surgery and hospitalization for about 2 weeks.
