Employee Amputates Finger in Cutter Machine

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on June 26, 2004, an employee was using a NORSCO Stops Cutter Machine to retrim a short wooden glass stop. The employee placed his right hand under the plexiglass guard to hold the short piece of wood in place. He thought his finger was clear of the cutter when he actuated the machine with its foot pedal. He suffered a partial amputation of his right hand index finger. A coworker provided first aid and drove the employee to the U. S. Healthworks facility in Riverside, for emergency medical attention. He was transferred to the Riverside Community Hospital, Riverside, where he was admitted for surgery and hospitalized overnight.
