Employee Suffers Amputation While Clearing Machine

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on February 6, 2006, Employee #1, an operator, was clearing the airlock pipe of a Jet-Zone Cyclone Fine Particulate Ventilation System. Employee #1 unscrewed one of the bolts with her fingers and pushed the dust sock and metal flange screen guard covering the airlock to the side, stuck her right hand into the pipe, and started to wipe the inside edge of the pipe with her middle finger. Employee #1 then felt a pull on her finger and the rotary vanes of the cyclone amputated her right middle finger up to the second knuckle. Employee #1 was treated but was not hospitalized.
