Employee Amputates Finger Tip While Operating Machine

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 21, 2007, Employee #1 was working on a foil wrapping machine in line Number 275 of the candy making area when she noticed a foil piece that got stuck in the rolls of the foil machine designated as RASCH MASCHINEN, Number 50827 KOLN. The machine has several small rolls inside, works on 240-volts AC supply, and is used for wrapping foils over the candies. Employee #1, tried to remove the stuck foil piece from the rolls with her hand when her right middle finger was caught in the pinch point resulting in a partial amputation to tip of finger. The machine was not deenergized. The moveable parts were not completely stopped or blocked against inadvertent movement, and no hand extension tool was used to retrieve the foil piece from the rolls. Employee #1 was treated in an industrial clinic for a couple of hours and released.
