Employee Amputates Two Fingers on Miter Saw

At approximately 7:10 a.m. on March 14, 2007, Employee #1 was working for Heppner Hardwoods, Inc., a manufacturer of fabricated wood millwork in Azusa, CA. He was operating a miter saw in the milling department, where hardwoods were processed for use as wood flooring. He was attempting to remove a scrap piece of wood located near the saw blade, which was running, when he made contact with the blade. At least two fingers on his right hand were amputated. He was transferred to San Dimas Community Hospital, where was hospitalized approximately thirty-two hours for treatment for the amputation. It was possible to reattach two fingers on his right hand.
