Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202473906
Event: 04/13/2007
Employee's Hand Lacerated by Miter Saw

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on April 13, 2007, Employee #1 was cutting lumber at Loveday Lumber Company. The company uses woodworking equipment to produce various sizes of chamfers and wood strips, per its customers' specifications. Employee #1 was operating a Dewalt 12-inch compound miter saw/chop saw (model #DW705, SN: 14639) to cut 8-foot to 10-foot long lumber into small pieces that were 4.375 inches long. As he was cutting, the lumber expectedly slipped from the saw and his left hand contacted the saw blade. The top of his left hand was severely lacerated, damaging the tendons on his left index and middle fingers. He was hospitalized for three days.
