Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202452199
Event: 03/15/2006
Worker Falls at Demolition Site Fracturing Both Legs

On March 15, 2006, VDG Demolition Services, a licensed contractor engaged in moving buildings and demolition, was contracted by the owner of a two-story building to demolish it. At the time of the accident, an employee was searching for a section of water hose to couple to an existing one. While demolition was in progress, he climbed to the second floor of the building and after reaching the top, the employee grabbed the loose end of a rebar, attempting to support his balance. As a result, he fell approximately 15 ft onto a pile of debris and sustained fractured legs. The employee was taken to County USC Medical Center, where he was hospitalized and had surgery.
