Employee Fractures Leg When Struck by Loader

At approximately 6:12 p.m. on June 5, 2006, Employee #1 was unhooking the cables on a tower crane basket. Manager #1 was operating a skid steer loader (John Deere, Model Number 317), loading rocks in a tower crane basket. Manager #1 backed up after loading the tower crane bucket and turned the loader to get another scoop of rocks. Employee #1 stood up between the loader and the tower crane bucket. Manager #1 attempted to pull out of the turn in order to avoid hitting Employee #1, but the loaded bucket on the loader was bent and hit Employee #1 in the lower right calf, knocking him into the tower crane basket. Employee #1 sustained a laceration to the right calf and a fracture of the right femur. Employee #1 was transported by paramedics to Scripps Memorial Hospital for surgery and remained in the hospital for at least ten days.
