Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202352936
Event: 09/09/2003
Employee is injured from fall

On September 9, 2003, Employee #1 and a coworker were located in the webbing of a truss, above a terrace floor on the northeast side of a building, installing braces. They had completed installing the first and second braces between trusses T2C and T2H and were waiting for a third truss to be raised up to them. For some reason, the T2H truss broke on the bottom chord, causing it to collapse. Both Employee #1 and the coworker fell approximately 21 feet to the terrace floor. The coworker was not injured, but Employee #1suffered a severe laceration to his arm. He was hospitalized and treated for his injury. Employee #1 was released several days later. A detailed investigation determined that the bracing had been installed according to the manufacturer's specifications.
