Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 200529220
Event: 10/21/2004
Employee's Fingers Amputated by Saw Blade

On October 21, 2004, Employee #1, owner of the company, decided not to wait for the factory person to arrive and started unpacking a new saw. He did not read the directions, and a block that holds the blade up for protection during shipping fell downward as he moved the lower chain. The blade came down like a guillotine and he was able to remove his hand quick enough to save his entire hand but the blade cut the small finger at the first digit. He was hospitalized with amputated finger.
