Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201561040
Event: 03/08/2004
Group home staffer dies after beating

On March 8, 2004, Employee #1, a staff member at a boy's youth group home, was beaten by two 17-year-old residents while on rounds checking on residents. They then locked Employee #1 in a closet, ripped the phone jack out of the wall, and fled. Two other residents that witnessed the event ran over a mile to the house of the business owner, who was not home. They then ran to another staff member's house and found him home. These three then drove back to the group home, released Employee #1 from the closet, and summoned police with the staff member's cell phone. Medical attention to Employee #1 was thereby delayed about an hour and a half after the beating. He died the next day.
