Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201088556
Event: 12/07/2006
Employee Is Injured in Fall from Second Floor

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 7, 2006, Employee #1 was helping Coworker #1 to snap lines, making interior walls. They were on the second floor, and the wall that they were marking was 10 ft from the edge of the deck. They were using two-way radios to communicate but they were not working properly. Coworker #2 came up to give a new radio to Coworker #1 and stated that he felt Employee #1 walking behind him. Coworker #2 advised Employee #1 to get away from the edge. Employee #1 then took a step backwards and fell off the edge of the deck, 13 ft. Employee #1 was transported to Kern Medical Center, where he was hospitalized for three days. Since wood framers are not required to tie-off at 13 ft and the employer met the reporting requirements, there were no violations related to this incident.
