Investigation Summary
At approximately 10:50 a.m. on June 27, 2006, Employee #1, a welder-fabricator, was standing at a stationary 20-in. diameter disc sander. He was deburring the edge of a 6-in. by 8-in. by 0.1875-in. metal plate. He was holding the plate above the tool rest at an angle. The work lunged down and his gloved hand became entrapped between the work and the sanding disc, which was rotating at 1,750 rpm. The disc removed his thumb near the first joint and he was hospitalized.
