Employee finger pinched in Quip machine

At approximately 4:50 a.m. on October 7, 2003, an employee was attempting to clear a jam on a Mart Quip In-Line Machine. The employee was operating the stacker section of the machine when it jammed. The employee locked out the areas of the machine that were not involved in the mal-function. In order to clear the jam at that particular point of the procedure, the employee operated the machine at a "jogging" level. While the employee was doing this, his left middle finger met the roller and the tip was pinched between the roller and the belt. The employee was transported to the Hospital where they surgically removed the tip in order to repair the damaged tissue. .
