Employee Dies Repairing Tree De-limber

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 1, 2003, Employee #1 was replacing the chain on the topping saw of a de-limber attached to a 384 Prentice Loader. A coworker was in the cab and observed both saws (topping and ground saw) were lowered. The coworker grasped the joystick (control) to retract the lower (ground) saw, but inadvertently press the bottom button that operated both ground saw and topping saw. The raising action of the topping saw pinned Employee #1 in the recess area. In an attempt to free Employee #1 from the recess area, the coworker pressed the right button on the joystick that activated the topping saw. The chain saw came on cutting into Employee #1's chest, causing a fatal wound. Employee #1 was pronounced dead at the scene.
