Employee killed when struck by vehicle

On the morning of October 21, 2002, Employee #1 was working on paving crew and was laying out a guide line for a paving machine to follow. He was struck and killed by a dump truck, which was backing up to deliver a load of hot asphalt to the paving machine. The dump truck backed approximately 300 yds from the paving machine when the accident occurred. No guide person or spotter was being used at time of accident. Cumberland County Emergency Medical Service arrived at approximately 8:40 a.m. and Employee #1 was pronounced dead at the scene.
