Employee killed by fall from stepladder while cutting pipe

On May 21, 2002, Employee #1 was assigned to remove 4-inch galvanized drain piping from overhead as part of the demolition stage of the building. Employee #1 was working from an 8-foot stepladder, cutting the piping and hangers with a grinder, when he was knocked from the ladder by the falling pipe or he fell from the ladder after losing his balance while cutting. Employee #1 fell and struck his head on the concrete floor or against the window sill of a nearby window. He was taken to the Emergency Room at Sinai Hospital by his supervisor and was admitted due to the head injury. On May 23, 2002, Employee #1 was pronounced dead due to the injury he sustained from the fall.
