Event: 11/07/2002
Employee's hand caught on conveyor belt

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on November 7, 2002, Employee #1 was working for Don Miguel Mexican Foods Inc., as part of a sanitation crew. Don Miguel Mexican Foods Inc. manufactures and distributes frozen Mexican food. The crew, Employee #1 and three coworkers, were cleaning the Make Up Conveyor Line 6. Employee #1 was drying an area under the lower belt with a towel wrapped around his right hand. The towel got caught by the head pulley, pulling his hand into the area between the head pulley and the conveyor belt. The Make Up Conveyor Line 6 was running during this cleaning process. This was the second day that Employee #1 had been assigned to the sanitation crew performing this operation. Employee #1 suffered a skin avulsion on his right hand due to the abrasive action of the conveyor belt and was hospitalized.
