Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202330874
Event: 08/07/2002
Employee Is Injured in Fall from Base Plate of Wall Section

At 7:10 a.m. on August 7, 2002, Employee #1, a carpenter, was working at a construction site. It was his first day at work, and the foreman assigned him with the task of cutting lumber for floor joists and installing them on the second floor of a building. The second floor of the building was fully decked and had studded wall sections erected and in place. As Employee #1 was standing on a base plate of one of the wall sections, laying floor joists, he lost his balance and fell 8 ft onto the wooden floor, landing on his back. Employee #1's coworkers came to his aid and contacted Emergency services. Employee #1 was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for a lacerated ear, receiving approximately seven to nine stitches. Then, he was transferred to a larger hospital to have a cast set on one of his arms that had a compound fracture, with the bone protruding.
