Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 171062714
Event: 06/10/2002
Employee amputates fingers on saw

On June 10, 2002, Employee #1 was using both hands to guide material through a saw using both hands, focusing on the material and the fence to be sure of getting a square cut. Inadvertently, his left hand passed under the guard and into the saw blade. Employee #1 heard a popping sound and realized that the saw blade had amputated his middle finger, amputated his ring finger at the first joint, and severely lacerated his index finger. Employee #1 was transported to the hospital, where his middle finger was surgically reattached. Bone grafts were required to repair both his remaining fingers. He was hospitalized.
