Employee amputates a finger using a skillsaw

On October 18, 2002, Employee #1 was working as a carpenter building a partition wall on the second floor of a building. He needed to make a notch on a piece of lumber, which was 2-in. by 4-in. by 16-in. in dimension. He was holding this piece on the floor with his left hand and was operating a skill saw, Hitachi Model H5036, Serial Number 10064, with his right hand. His left thumb came in contact with the rotating blade and was amputated about halfway. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
