Employee struck by subway train and killed

On March 20, 2002, an employee of Schiavone Construction Co. Inc. was on the South Bound (SB) - Track Number 3 on the Brighton Beach Q-Line at the Atlantic Avenue Station, taking measurements when he was struck by an oncoming passenger train. The passenger train was traveling in the North Bound direction on the SB track (under single tracking operations). The adjacent track was under a General Order (GO) and a work train was on the track number 4. Track number 3 was not under a GO and there was no flagging protection where the employee was working.
